28 September 2026,  Kiana Venter
Gender-based violence (“GBV”) and harassment are not issues confined to the home or the criminal justice system. Conduct connected to... work can also engage an employer's obligations under South African employment law. The Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998 (“EEA”), together with the Code of Good Practice on the Prevention and Elimination of Harassment in the Workplace, provides an important framework for dealing with harassment. The Code recognises that harassment may take different forms and may occur in circumstances connected with an employee's work. The concept of the workplace is therefore not necessarily limited to the employer's physical premises.
